Ondo integrates LayerZero for multi-chain USDY support

As a seasoned analyst with a knack for deciphering the intricacies of the blockchain world, I find the partnership between Ondo Finance and LayerZero intriguing. The integration of LayerZero’s interoperability protocol is a strategic move that could potentially revolutionize the accessibility and utility of tokenized real-world assets.

On Ondo Finance, a platform that tokenizes real-world assets, they’ve added LayerZero’s interoperability system to facilitate the transfer of these tokenized assets across multiple blockchains.

As per the recent announcement, Ondo (ONDO) plans to leverage LayerZero’s (ZRO) technology to broaden the distribution of its USD Yield (USDY) stablecoin. This yield-generating token represents a market cap worth over $452 million and is currently the third-largest tokenized U.S. Treasuries product in circulation.

Nathan Allman, CEO of Ondo Finance, stated that high-quality financial assets need a secure and dependable connection between different blockchain networks in order to maximize the potential of this technology. By teaming up with LayerZero, we can facilitate smooth cross-chain transactions, offering the robust infrastructure that institutions require to comfortably distribute their tokenized assets across multiple interconnected blockchains.

Ondo intends to employ LayerZero’s multi-chain Fungible Token Standard (OFT), enhancing the capabilities of ERC-20 tokens for a wider range of DeFi applications. This integration guarantees robust security, with verifications backed by platforms such as Polyhedra, Axelar, and LayerZero Labs.

Users are now able to invest in yield-producing U.S. Treasuries directly, without the need for creating new tokens on extra blockchain platforms. Ondo’s USDY has become fully compatible with Ethereum, Arbitrum, and Mantle networks following this integration.

The partnership between Ondo and LayerZero will extend to include more networks than just the initial three. It’s been demonstrated by data from rwa.xyz that these tokenized real-world assets can also be found on Solana, Sui, and Aptos networks.

According to rwa.xyz, the total value of Ondo’s RWA products has increased to more than $600 million, which is made up of yield-backed tokenized U.S. Treasuries. This puts Ondo in a leading position compared to competitors such as Securitize (BlackRock’s tokenization partner), Hashnote, and Franklin Templeton Benji Investments.
