As a seasoned analyst with over two decades of experience in cybercrime investigations, I have seen my fair share of digital heists. The recent attack on WazirX’s multisig wallet, resulting in a staggering loss of $230 million, is yet another grim reminder of the ever-evolving threat landscape in the digital world.
After 20 nerve-wracking days filled with doubt due to the massive cyber heist targeting WazirX’s multisig wallet, amounting to over $230 million (approximately ₹2000 Cr), I have finally seen some progress. An official police complaint has been lodged to hopefully bring clarity and justice to this situation.
On August 5, 2024, a First Information Report (FIR) was submitted at the Special Cell station located in Lodhi Colony, New Delhi, and is now being handled by the Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police under the provisions of the BNS & IT Act. This action marks a crucial development as vast sums of investor money are currently unaccounted for.
The organization in question has shown unwavering faith in the investigating agencies and promised full collaboration during the proceedings. They are actively working towards retrieving the misappropriated resources, and they remain optimistic that the perpetrators will soon face legal consequences.
The situation underscores the critical need for robust cybersecurity measures and vigilance in protecting substantial investments. The organization remains committed to transparency and resolution as they navigate this challenging period.
