Pump.fun’s community notice has brought in urgent moderation changes

As a seasoned crypto investor with over a decade of experience navigating the digital frontier, I’ve seen my fair share of ups and downs. The recent incident at Pump.fun was undeniably one of those downs, a stark reminder that the crypto world is not immune to real-world issues.

Recently under fire due to misuse of their livestream, Pump.fun is asking for immediate changes in moderation from the community. (or) In response to criticism about the mismanagement of their livestream, Pump.fun is calling for an urgent revision of moderation practices by the community.

As a crypto enthusiast, I initially viewed the livestream platform as a valuable resource for connecting with fellow creators and fostering a sense of community. However, it’s been deeply disheartening to witness its misuse, leaving an unforeseen impact on our community that has left us all in shock.

The problem emerged when Beau, employed as a safety product manager at Pudgy Penguins, posted on Twitter about a user expressing intentions of self-harm or suicide if their token failed to reach a specific market cap, with rumors of another person committing suicide. Overall, the platform swiftly responded by suspending the live stream function and has chosen to offer assistance to viewers who were affected.

On November 25, 2024, they shared a communication with the public discussing the recent incidents and detailing their course of action. The team expressed remorse for the circumstances that unfolded and acknowledged the damage caused. They also acknowledged the community’s worries and reiterated their commitment to safety by listing the precautions already in place. These precautions involve deleting inappropriate content and marking adult-themed materials as such.

If you come across a coin where the rules aren’t being followed strictly, feel free to bring it to our attention right away by reaching out through our support platforms.

Additionally, we’ve increased our team of human moderators twice over and continue to enhance our moderation systems. These improvements allow our human moderators to deal with inappropriate content quickly, while also relying on automated moderation systems that can handle inappropriate content immediately.

The community reacts:

Initially, as a member of the crypto community, I found the recent unsettling events quite alarming. However, Pump.fun’s swift response with decisive and passionate actions has helped alleviate these concerns, bringing a sense of reassurance back to our community.

It seems like you’ve got a great idea! Instead of having just a single way to report issues, why not incorporate a “Report” function? This feature could work such that when a specific number (N) of reports are received for a particular stream, the stream would automatically be suspended. This approach could help manage the vast number of streams created daily and make it easier to monitor them as needed.

Some users have proposed setting NSFW (Not Safe For Work) as the default option, while others have requested an ‘alert’ feature allowing users to flag inappropriate content.
