Scammers Target Toncoin Amid Telegram-TON Partnership Hype

Scammers have been drawn to Telegram’s support for the TON blockchain and its intended issuance of the Toncoin token, exploiting this situation to deceive unwary token owners.

Kaspersky, a cybersecurity company, revealed information about a deceitful scheme aimed at swindling Telegram users globally since at least November 2023. This scam takes advantage of the increasing curiosity and financial commitment towards TON, the Telegram-based cryptocurrency platform.

Crooks are advertising an intricate scheme for inviting others to join, with the ultimate goal being the theft of TON tokens from unsuspecting individuals, according to Kaspersky’s analysis.

Fraudsters entice individuals with alluring pitches for supposedly profitable schemes. They distribute links via friends or connections, giving the impression of a fantastic chance.

When a user clicks the link, they’ll be directed to an unofficial Telegram bot invitation. This bot is marketed as a secure platform for managing cryptocurrencies, and users are asked to connect their Web3 wallets to it.

To give it an authentic appearance, they advise you to obtain Toncoins only from authorized channels such as the Telegram bot, peer-to-peer marketplaces, or cryptocurrency exchanges.

After that, you’ll encounter a challenging step: the bots instruct you to purchase “enhancement tools” from another bot before you can begin earning. These enhancement tools are referred to as “bikes,” “cars,” “trains,” “planes,” or “rockets,” each with varying costs between 5 and 500 Toncoins.

But here’s the catch: once you buy a booster, you lose control of your cryptocurrency forever.
