The South Korean business giant, Lotte Group, has opted for the Ethereum layer 2 solution, Arbitrum, to boost the performance of its AI-powered metaverse platform, Lotte Caliverse.
At CES 2025, Arbitrum’s blockchain was introduced with its rapid 250ms block times. According to Steven Goldfeder, CEO of Offchain Labs, the developer of Arbitrum, this platform is perfectly suited for Caliverse, as it delivers top-notch performance in virtual environments and gaming experiences.
Goldfeder stated that the Arbitrum technological infrastructure promises a smooth and user-oriented experience, establishing “a fresh benchmark for Arbitrum-related transactions within digital realms.
Developed in collaboration with gaming industry titans such as Epic Games, utilizing cutting-edge technology like Unreal Engine 5, Lotte Caliverse serves as a metaverse platform. It offers unique experiences such as virtual shopping where items are delivered to your doorstep, immersive K-Pop and electronic music events featuring stars like NMIXX and DJ ALOK, and interactive gaming experiences, one of which is the recently unveiled “Caliverse: Invasion.
This platform will showcase a variety of brands belonging to the Lotte Group, such as Lotte Duty-Free, Lotte HiMart, and Lotte Cinema, along with well-known international brands like Givenchy, MCM, L’Occitane, fresh, 7-Eleven, and the globally acclaimed music festival Tomorrowland.
First launched in August of the previous year, Caliverse is now accessible for user interaction. The upcoming integration with Arbitrum, however, promises to introduce cryptocurrency transaction capabilities within the platform.
This recent advancement further strengthens Lotte Group’s alliance with Arbitrum, established last year, making Arbitrum a key blockchain infrastructure supplier for Caliverse.
In the course of this growing partnership, it’s anticipated that Lotte will be awarded the single largest grant in ARB tokens, should the terms be agreed upon by Arbitrum officials. At present, these negotiations are still ongoing and have yet to reach a conclusion.
Back in 2023, the Lotte Group unveiled its ambition to delve into blockchain technology and develop a metaverse. During this period, they partnered with Ethereum’s sidechain, Polygon, to broaden their Non-Fungible Token (NFT) endeavors.
Over the past while, Arbitrum has been firmly establishing itself as a key figure in the Web3 gaming sector. Just last month, they unveiled Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E., an action-packed multiplayer shooter game that utilizes blockchain technology to deliver web3 interactive experiences.
By June 2024, I found myself excitedly learning about a groundbreaking $215 million fundraising initiative launched by the project. The aim? To empower and foster the growth of game developers in the rapidly evolving world of web3 gaming. As an investor in this dynamic crypto sphere, it’s moments like these that truly underscore the immense potential we’re tapping into as pioneers in this digital frontier.
According to DappRadar, more than 100 games are currently available on the blockchain, with CryptantCrab Prime, Zeeverse, and Overtime Markets being the most popular among them.
