As a seasoned researcher who has closely followed the developments within the blockchain and web3 industry over the past decade, I must say that the leadership transition at Starknet Foundation is a noteworthy event. Diego Oliva’s tenure has been instrumental in establishing Starknet as a significant player in the Layer-2 scaling landscape, and his departure leaves big shoes to fill.
The Starknet Foundation, which manages Ethereum‘s Layer-2 scaling solution, has announced a major shift in its leadership. Diego Oliva, the initial CEO since March 2023, is stepping down. Starting next month, James Strudwick, formerly the Head of Ecosystem Growth, will take over as Executive Director.
Olivia’s leadership played a crucial role in Starknet’s swift growth as a company. He guided the organization from its early days with just two part-timers, all the way to a strong team consisting of more than thirty full-time experts.
As a crypto investor, I’m excited to pass on some news about Starknet Foundation. JD Goo Livia, our inaugural CEO since March 2023, is moving on after laying a solid foundation by building a robust team and structure. Stepping into her role will be Strj D87, who has been an integral part of the Foundation for quite some time now.

With his leadership, Starknet embarked on essential projects designed to strengthen the ecosystem’s foundation and resources, including the Provisions project, DeFi Spring, and multiple grant schemes.
Under Oliva’s leadership, the foundation not only grew its staff but also formed crucial partnerships with more than a hundred other teams. This greatly improved the functional structure and scalability of the Starknet network.
Collaborations have played a significant role in launching projects such as Basecamp and Hacker Houses, which have strengthened Starknet’s presence within the market.
The new Executive Director, James Strudwick, is well-versed in various aspects of web3 technologies, particularly DeFi and scaling projects at Layer 1 and 2. In his previous position with Starknet, he was instrumental in growing the community and ecosystem, demonstrating his ability to manage intricate projects effectively.
Over the coming month, Oliva plans to collaborate closely with Strudwick for a seamless handover process.
The board of the foundation has deeply appreciated Oliva’s leadership and accomplishments, and at the same time, they have shown great encouragement and enthusiasm for Strudwick’s vision during his forthcoming term.
As a seasoned blockchain enthusiast with years of experience navigating the ever-changing landscape of cryptocurrency, I can attest to the dynamic and evolving nature of Layer 2 scaling solutions like Starknet. Recently, the suspension of operations by ZKX Protocol, a derivatives protocol on Starknet, has shed light on the challenges that these projects face. It’s a stark reminder of how quickly things can change in this fast-paced industry and the importance of staying adaptable. The economic difficulties faced by ZKX Protocol underscore the need for continued innovation and resilience in the face of adversity. I have seen many projects come and go, but those that persevere through tough times are often the ones that thrive in the long run. It’s an exciting time to be a part of this ecosystem, and I eagerly await the next chapter in the story of Starknet.
