Telos & Ponos Unveil Ethereum L2 Partnership at TOKEN2049

At the notable TOKEN2049 conference, Telos shared exciting news: a pioneering partnership with Ponos Technology is underway to construct an Ethereum network (Layer 2) based on zkEVM and boosted by hardware acceleration. This initiative, spearheaded by Executive Director John Lilic, signifies a major achievement for Telos.

At the #TOKEN2049 conference today, our Executive Director, @ChiefOfTelos, revealed that Telos has begun creating a zkEVM L2 network with hardware acceleration, in partnership with Ponos Technology. This is an important step forward in our mission to boost blockchain capabilities.

At TOKEN2049, these teams unveiled their project for the first time, but behind the scenes they’ve been hard at work. They’ve brought together their knowledge of hardware and software to develop a unique method for building networks.

Using this groundbreaking approach, you can expect improved zkEVM functionality on a larger scale, resulting in reduced delay times and increased cost-effectiveness and energy savings.

Led by Alberto Garoffolo, the head of ZK Technology at Telos, the network will utilize SNARKtor, a decentralized system for collecting and verifying proofs, to amplify its capabilities.

John Lilic expressed that Ethereum needs to adopt a coordinated design of hardware and software to achieve the high performance of zkEVM at large scale. This is the direction Ponos Technology and our expanding partnership group are pursuing as we develop a hardware-boosted zkEVM Layer 2 solution.

Alongside Ponos, a group of essential collaborators are teaming up to create, disseminate, and promote this network.

Some notables in this group include Digital M.O.B., recognized for their expertise in Ethereum with initiatives such as MetaMask and MakerDAO; ATKA, a Paris-based web3 hatchery that fosters projects like Morpho and Mangrove; and Cometh, helmed by Jerome de Tychey of ETH France, who now consults Telos on technical EVM issues.

Although ZK technology holds great potential, implementing it comes with difficulties in ensuring both quick processing times and robust security for large-scale applications.
