- Buterin wants to kick the old EVM to the curb and bring in the new, faster RISC-V!
- ETH‘s market sentiment is doing a little happy dance after getting out of April’s emotional rollercoaster.
Hold on to your wallets, folks! Vitalik Buterin is back in the spotlight with a big idea. This time, it’s a major upgrade to Ethereum’s [ETH] execution layer, also known as the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). And let’s just say it’s about to get faster than a caffeinated squirrel!
Vitalik is suggesting a swap of the old, tired EVM with the shiny new RISC-V, claiming it’s simpler, faster, and smarter for smart contracts. Basically, he’s saying, “Out with the old, in with the new!”
Here’s a direct quote from the man himself, as if he were speaking to a crowd of ETH enthusiasts (and probably some doubters too):
“It (overhaul) aims to greatly improve the efficiency of the Ethereum execution layer, resolving one of the primary scaling bottlenecks, and can also greatly improve the execution layer’s simplicity – in fact, it is perhaps the only way to do so.”
And guess what? Buterin’s not just making promises—he’s talking about a “100x efficiency gain.” Yeah, you read that right. It’s like upgrading your grandma’s flip phone to the latest iPhone in terms of speed. Exciting, right?
Is this as epic as it sounds? Let’s break it down.
Enter Kshitij Kulkarni from Succinct Labs, who’s totally vibing with Vitalik’s vision. According to him, the current EVM is like a slow, old car on the freeway, holding up traffic. In fact, the EVM is so inefficient that it’s slowing down Ethereum by 800x. Yikes!
“At Succinct, we found that the EVM’s interpreter can add up to an 800x overhead to zkVM proving times. The EVM is very inefficient for ZK.”
And Uma Roy, another smarty-pants from Succinct Labs, agrees, suggesting that ditching the EVM for RISC-V could increase Ethereum’s gas limits while still keeping everything legit. It’s like increasing the speed limit while keeping the cops off your back. 🙌
Right now, Solana is the king of speed, zipping along at 90x faster than Ethereum. But if Buterin gets his way, Ethereum could be running circles around the competition, closing that gap like a high-speed chase. 🚗💨
Some people are so hyped about the potential that they’re already predicting Ethereum’s price could hit $3k or even $10k. Crypto analyst AIXBT is all over it:
“ETH RISC-V testnet launching Q3, $3k price floor incoming.”
The update has already given ETH sentiment a nice little bump. It’s not quite “to the moon” yet, but hey, it’s better than it was in early April when the market was in full-on panic mode. 😬
After the announcement, social media exploded, and ETH’s popularity shot up. The internet was buzzing like a bee in a flower garden. 🍯

Looking at the 12-hour chart, ETH’s RSI just crossed the 50-mark for the first time in April, signaling that demand might be on the up-and-up. If Ethereum can clear $1700 and hold onto $1800, we might just be looking at a full-blown rally. But hey, no promises! It’s crypto, baby! 💸
