Universal Security Provider Karak Partners With Space and Time To Improve Slashing Mechanism

As a seasoned researcher with years of experience diving into the intricacies of blockchain technology, I find the partnership between Karak and Space and Time (SxT) particularly exciting. The collaboration between these two innovative platforms promises to revolutionize the way we approach security and computation in decentralized systems.

In an unusual collaboration, the decentralized security platform, Karak, which offers universal protection for any asset, has teamed up with Space and Time (SxT), a robust compute layer that improves indexing across various blockchain networks. This partnership will allow Karak to utilize SxT as a zero-knowledge co-processor, powering a trustless slashing and reward system for Karak’s Distributed Secure Services (DSS). Additionally, SxT plans to create a DSS on the Karak platform for its ZK-compatible indexing service.

With Karak’s all-encompassing security system, developers can effortlessly incorporate universal protection for any digital asset they work on. This platform offers a novel design that allows developers to build robust and secure infrastructure effortlessly, paving the way for new protocols that boost their security right from the start. This fosters innovation in Web 3 development and eliminates the requirement for protocols to motivate their validator sets through a highly dilutive reward system.

Created by Karak, the DSS service employs re-staked assets as a universal security measure for protocols and decentralized applications (DApps), much like EigenLayer. However, the DSS architecture offers greater scalability, customizability, and adaptability for protocols and developers to utilize. This service can be applied to secure various applications, ranging from basic tools such as calculators to intricate ones like decentralized marketplaces and zero-knowledge co-processors. The collaboration with SxT is focused on addressing the slashing issue: swiftly determining the appropriate penalties, a task that SxT’s ZK technology is expected to address effectively.

According to the team’s declaration, when Decentralized Storage Systems (DSSs) are integrated, one of the essential pieces of information that Karak needs is a method to verify off-chain activities on the blockchain. Space and Time facilitates the quick definition of slashing logic, which in turn accelerates the development and deployment of DSSs.

SxT offers a reliable layer for computations that can handle zero-knowledge proofs across a network of databases. Karak intends to utilize this technology for trustworthy data processing. Additionally, they plan to incorporate the innovative SQL proof developed by SxT, which enhances scalability and security during computations, into their slashing and reward system.

SxT Partnership Will Improve Slashing And Rewards Mechanism

In simpler terms, our collaboration aims to create a network that allows secure computation without a central authority. This network will guarantee a fair penalty (slashing) and reward system for those validating transactions on the platform, without relying on trust from any single entity.

The system will consist of three primary entities: a smart contract acting as a relay, which handles SQL query requests, broadcasts events for the Space-Time (SxT) network, and checks and delivers query outcomes. Additionally, it will feature operators within SxT who will index on-chain Data Storage System (DSS) activities like completed tasks and track query job events, directing them to available prover operators within the Space-Time network. Lastly, these prover entities, also based on SxT, will execute queries, produce Zero-Knowledge proofs, and return results to the relay smart contract.

How it works

When the Karak agreement executes, it sends a SQL statement to the SxT intermediary contract for verification. This contract then broadcasts an event with details about the query task. The SxT operators monitor this event on the main network and assign the task to an available prover in the SxT network. These operators run ZK-compatible indexing nodes, which will also be part of a Distributed Storage System (DSS).

Illustration depicting the sequence and structure of slashing modifications in Karak following collaboration with Space and Time (SxT).

1. After the SxT provers confirm the query, the operator performs the query, generating a Zero-Knowledge proof and encrypting the queried data using a cryptographic commitment. The operator subsequently sends these elements back to the Space and Time relayer contract on the source blockchain via a relayed transaction. Once verified by the relayer contract, it delivers the query result to the initial Karak slashing contract through a callback function. This action ultimately decides the amount of slash for a specific DSS on Karak.

SxT Develops a DSS indexing platform on Karak

In the context of our collaboration, SxT will additionally construct a Decentralized Storage System (DSS) specifically designed for Karak, catering to its zero-knowledge compatible indexing needs. This DSS is one of the roles mentioned earlier that SxT will perform. The purpose of this DSS is to facilitate blockchain indexing, empowering community members to effortlessly manage indexing nodes within the SxT network. For Space and Time, creating a DSS is particularly suitable, given its application in scenarios demanding utmost security, incentive congruence, and decentralization – especially for tasks like decentralized data indexing.

By smoothly incorporating SxT into Karak, we can enhance the overall security of platforms and protocols developed on Karak, giving them access to SxT’s Zk-proof technology for data indexing that benefits other Decentralized Security Systems (DSSs). This partnership is predicted to speed up the realization of a shared vision: “a universal, verifiable security solution for developers worldwide.”
