ChatGPT Down: Global  Outrage Leaves Users Unable to Access

During the early part of the day on Wednesday, February 6, a significant outage affected the popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, developed by OpenAI. This outage made it impossible for users to access the platform. The disruption in services started at 10 AM and prompted over 1,400 complaints to be logged on Downdetector.

A large number of users were impacted by the issues with ChatGPT, as reports over 98% indicated problems with the platform. In an attempt to find out if others had experienced similar service interruptions, many users switched to X (previously Twitter) during the time when the chatbot was offline.

As a crypto investor, I find myself often checking Twitter during unexpected system downtimes, noticing an abundance of similar posts about the same issue. It seems we’ve grown accustomed to using social media as our first point of contact when experiencing service disruptions, seeking confirmation from others on the scope of the problem. This practice helps us verify if it’s a widespread issue or just affecting our end.

As a crypto investor, I was made aware by OpenAI’s status page that an interruption in their service had caused issues with ChatGPT, its API, and the Sora platforms on February 5 at around 9:58 AM IST. Throughout the day, OpenAI kept me informed as they worked diligently to restore their services, providing regular updates on the progress.

The company managed to resolve API and Sora issues successfully at 10:14 PM IST, after they diligently worked on pinpointing the root cause of the problem. OpenAI announced the full resolution of ChatGPT, including its APIs and Sora, by 11:30 AM IST.
