Will Trent Adds A Scandal Alum To Season 3 Cast To 'Heat Things Up,' And I'm So Ready

As a die-hard fan of gripping dramas and a connoisseur of TV twists, I couldn’t help but feel a thrill of anticipation upon hearing the news that Scott Foley is joining the cast of Will Trent for its third season! With a rich background in shows like Scandal, Felicity, and even Whiskey Cavalier (a series I wish had lasted longer than a martini at a CIA bar), his addition to the show is sure to bring a fresh, exciting dynamic that will undoubtedly heat things up.

The conclusion approaches for the extended hiatus that followed Season 2 of Will Trent, marked by a heart-wrenching choice made by the main character. Although ABC’s popular drama won’t return until beyond the 2024 TV season, fans won’t have to wait long into the 2025 TV schedule for Ramón Rodriguez, Erika Christensen, Iantha Richardson, and the other cast members to reappear. Additionally, a veteran actor from Scandal is joining the team, as stated by the show itself on social media, “to spice things up.” So, get ready to welcome Scott Foley to Will Trent!

Scott Foley will recur in the upcoming third season of Will Trent, according to Deadline, in which he’ll play the confident emergency of medicine head at a local hospital. As Angie’s new love interest, his down-to-earth qualities may come in handy! It’s hard to say too much about the character ahead of the Season 3 premiere on January 7, but the official Will Trent Instagram account posted this message along with the casting news:

It’s about to get scandalous 👀 Meet Dr. Seth McDale when [Scott Foley] comes to heat things up on Will Trent this season! 👏

Known primarily for his work on the hit show “Scandal” throughout its seven seasons, Foley initially gained recognition as a main character in the TV series “Felicity,” which concluded following lead actress Keri Russell’s iconic haircut. Following the brief Fox series “Whiskey Cavalier” alongside Lauren Cohan, Foley’s latest recurring TV role was on “The Girls on the Bus,” currently streaming for Max subscribers.

It’s yet to be determined how prominently he’ll appear in Will Trent this season; it’s possible that his role may hinge on whether Will and Angie manage to stay apart for an extended period this time, which depends on the viability of their reconciliation. Given that Season 2 concluded with Will choosing to arrest Angie, it wouldn’t be unexpected if the “will-they/won’t-they” dynamic leans towards “they won’t” for a while. (You can stream the first two seasons with a Hulu subscription now.)

In addition, actress Gina Rodriguez has joined ‘Will Trent’ Season 3 as the fresh assistant district attorney and a potential new romantic interest for Will. This suggests that both Will and Angie may each pursue love, but it appears they won’t be together romantically. Here is a sneak peek of Rodriguez in the promo for season 3: (provide link to the promo if available)
